In 1977, NASA’s Voyager 1 captured a photo of earth from 3.7 billion miles away. Nearly 2 decades later, Carl Sagan would be quoted saying “To me, it underscores our responsibility to deal more kindly with one another, and to preserve and cherish the pale blue dot, the only home we’ve ever known.”

Kian Alavi

Building Mazlo continues Kian’s personal journey. He spent his early career in investment services with Morgan Stanley, learning about investments, banking, and SEC-driven financial compliance. At 30, he left the for-profit world to dedicate himself to community building. Over 14 years, Kian built, ran, and scaled nonprofits serving thousands of families in San Francisco. He served as Deputy Director of Good Samaritan Family Resource Center, working in finance, HR, fundraising, technology overhauls, and board work. He has advised local government departments, chaired nonprofit leadership forums, and received the Jefferson Award for community service and a YBCA 100 honoree for global activism. Kian now serves on the boards of the Homeless Prenatal Program and AXIS Dance.

Kian Alavi

Previously, Kian served as the Deputy Director for the Good Samaritan Family Resource Center. In the last decade, he has served in various community posts including committee member of the San Francisco Mayor’s Children and Families Pandemic Recovery Task Force, represented the Mission District on the Transportation Authority’s Citizen Advisory Committee, and co-chaired the Children and Youth Fund Service Providers Working Group. He is a recipient of the Jefferson Award for Community Service and a YBCA 100 honoree. He earned his BA from the University of California, Santa Barbara.

Sean Anderson

Chief Product Officer
& Co-founder

Sean wears many hats at Mazlo. As a generalist, he’s spent the last four years overseeing the design, branding, business strategy and engineering at Mazlo. After studying Aeronautical Engineering at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, he honed his passion for problem solving and eventually launched a software development agency that focused on enterprise applications.
